1. Keep track of your spending. Track each dollar you spend. This is the only way for you to know that your shopping for the holidays have been reasonable. If you expect to overshoot your budget, make the necessary adjustments by curbing your expenses now.
2. Make a list of things to buy. While it is impossible to plan out each purchase, at least you have the idea about how much you are willing to spend and for whom are you spending. Know who should receive what, how much should be spent on foods, and which vacation spots are more practical.
3. Know your limits. You should be willing to stop when enough seems enough. Overspending can push your limits to points you might regret in the future.
