Most people find it annoying to prepare a budget. While it is true that budgeting may be time consuming and requires a deliberate decision, it does not have to be difficult. Here are four ways to make budgeting easy.
1. Prioritize budgeting. Early on, you have to make a definite decision to start making a budget, or make a better one. Set aside some time to do it. For starters, at least 15 minutes per day or two hours per week can go a long way.
2. Keep track of your spending. Take out your pile of bills and make a close study of your expenses at least the past two months. Make a simple spreadsheet and plot out those expenses. At least, it gives a better picture of which expenses take a huge chunk of your money. Then you are able to identify the ones that may need some adjustments.
3. Set up your bills for automatic payments. Aside from saving you some valuable time, automation keeps you from being hit with unnecessary fees and penalties for late payments. Automation also helps you avoid impulse buying. Your money will be spent only on what really matters.
4. Do the essentials. Cut back on some expenses. This may include eating out, going to movies, and other similar expenses. Take a look at your credit card spending. Do not use more than two credit cards at the same time.
Budgeting need not be a grueling task. While this may be overwhelming, the more difficult part is always how to get started.
