Money in itself is not bad. Owning it is not bad either. That’s why you pursue it. You work long and hard hours to obtain it. Sometimes, you are even forced to take on more jobs for money. Simply because you need money. Everyone needs money.
Perhaps you are thinking that if you have more money, you will have enough to pay all your bills and debts on time, and there will be more food on the table for the family. However, it is sad that despite your yearly salary increases, you are still broke; still wanting for more. Sometimes, you even fall at the mercy of credit.
Contrary to popular opinion, money is not evil. It is the LOVE of it. The Bible clearly says in 1 Timothy 6:10 that “the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil.” While it is true that having more money to spend makes you happy, spending more money because you loved it cannot truly satisfy. You would end up wanting for more of it simply there are more stuff out there that you would still want to buy. So instead of spending time with your family, you use your spare times to take on another job. What for? To have more money. What for? So you can buy more.
Let me get you straight to the matter at hand. Money is neither good nor evil; that is, money is amoral. It is just a piece of printed paper or shiny metal. It is used as a tool for exchange to acquire goods and services. If you are above your money and get to control it, then you spare yourself and your loved ones from the terror of wanting more and more money. Money hurt you. It cannot cause you to live in debts or be broke.
However, if you let money get the upper hand; that is, money dictating where it should go, then you lose your control over your money. Your priorities will begin to change. Instead of enjoying the things money can buy, you will to be detached from your real life in pursuit of more money.
The Bible is also clear about this. You become a slave of what has mastered you. If you allow money to be your master, then money ceases to be amoral. It becomes evil. But if you learn to control money and look at it as just a means to an end, then money becomes good; something you can use today to enjoy a full life.
The choice is yours!
