Here are some things driver should do and not do to avoid being one of the DUI statistics.
When you drive, do not drink. When you drink, do not drive. This is a basic rule. In most states, a blood alcohol level (BAL) of 0.8% is the barometer for a driver to be charged with DUI. However, the acceptable BAL should not be treated as a tolerance level.
Weaving or manifesting signs of impaired driving. Anyone can be pulled over for minor traffic violation and could still be arrested for DUI. It will not matter if the driving was perfect.
Always submit to the Field Sobriety Test. If the police officer is doubtful about the driver’s BAL, he would always resort to Field Sobriety Test (FST). Simple tests would be conducted to test id the driver is sober. The driver should voluntarily submit to the FST.
