For Cotton-based Materials
Cotton shirts can easily get soiled but before tossing your shirt into the laundry, you have to deal with it immediately. Take a clean cloth and blot the oil stain out. Cover the stain with baking soda for at least 30 minutes. Then, brush it off. For stains caused by wine, they can be taken away by salt and cold water. Use white vinegar to get rid of coffee stains.
For Silk-based Materials
Oil stains on silk-based materials can be removed by sprinkling the affected area with baby powder. Let it stay for at least half an hour. Sweet ‘n Low or Splenda may be used as alternative to baby powder. After that, you will have to let the dry cleaner do the washing. Wine stains may be removed by soaking the material in water with OxiClean for at least eight hours. Repeat the process if necessary.
For Leather-based Materials
Clean your couch or your purse using soapy water and leather cleaner. Using the back portion of the scrubbing sponge, gently buff your leather materials. You may use leather conditioner to deal with cracked leather.
For Wool-based Materials
To deal with stains on hats, scarves, sweaters and other woolen materials, remove the stains by making a solution of wool cleaner and vinegar at 1:1 ratio. Soak the material for as long as necessary. Blot the stain from the inside to prevent the stain from spreading.
For Microfiber Materials
Microfiber materials can get stained just like any other materials. Before you do anything, check the tag to know what type of material your stuff was made from because may be cleaned with water while others may require solvent. Instead of using solvents, use the ordinary rubbing alcohol. Wipe the alcohol with a clean cloth. Air dry afterwards.
For Car Interiors
This is especially true at the car’s backseat where the kids are prone to spill food. Mix one part of water with one part of vinegar. You may use toothbrush to remove hardened stains. If this does not help, use castile soap instead of vinegar. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
For Carpets
Stained carpets can be cleaned through soaking. Make a solution of one-fourth teaspoon of detergent and one cup of lukewarm water. Scour out the stain using the solution. Let it stay for at least 15 minutes. Make another mixture of one cup vinegar and two cups of water. Repeat the process using this new solution. Rinse off with water.
