This is simply not the way to celebrate the season. Celebrating a special occasion shouldn’t be an excuse to throw caution to the wind. Read on to find out how to curb your holiday spending while still enjoying yourself at the same time:
- Make a list based on real numbers – don’t let emotions get the better of you. If you can only afford to spend $100 for 20 people this Christmas, for example, then that’s the maximum you should spend. It is your call whether to spend $20 on close friends and $2 gifts to the rest. The important thing is to stick to the realistic figure you set.
- Host a potluck event – in case you’re asked to host a party, make it a potluck occasion. That way, everyone contributes to the event; the burden won’t fall on you alone. Most people will understand your situation.
- Create homemade gifts – if you’re good at baking, give cookies or cakes to your friends or family. Meanwhile, if you’re good at drawing, why not draw some portraits and give those as gifts? Whoever receives these will appreciate the effort you have put into them.
